About the Aussie Millions

The Australian Poker Champions, also known as the Aussie Millions is the 6th largest live poker tournament in the world and is held annually at the famous Crown Casino.  Poker was first played at the Crown in 1997 after which the 1998 inaguaral Aussie Millions event began.  Since then, the Aussie Millions has grown to become the biggest poker tournament in the southern hemispere and the main event has a $10,500 AUD buy-in. Last year’s winner Alexander Kostrisyn took home over $1.6 million.

The 2008 Aussie Millions Championship concluded on January 20th.  A total of 780 players participated, which generated a prizepool worth more than $8 million.  The top 80 entrants finishes “in the money” and received between $1,800 and $1,650,00 each.  The 2009 Aussie Millions event featured 15 tournaments and the Main Event had a guaranteed $2 million first place prize.  Fox Sports Net currently broadcasts the tournament on TV.
